IMAGING MANAGER – JOB DESCRIPTION

EXEMPT

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Imaging Manager oversees the imaging department. Coordinates the technical and managerial operation of the day, evening/night and weekend shifts. Performs a variety of duties in preparing patients for x-ray procedures of organs and body parts to furnish diagnostic information. Provides staff training, completes personnel schedules and evaluates competency and performance of all personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Implement changes in policies, procedures, and quality improvement. Implements and evaluates changes in practices, policies, or procedures based on current trends in Radiology Services through assessment of existing departmental problems or issues, and quality improvement recommendations.
  • Establishes specific standards and written Policies and Procedures. Communicates changes in policies and procedures along with other appropriate communication to staff. Initiates performance improvement.
  • Effective liaison between staff and management.
  • Maintains current knowledge of workplace hazards and precautions necessary to provide safe working environment. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of current laws and regulations and department and hospital policies regarding hazards common to the clinical radiology areas and body mechanics.
  • Attends seminars, workshops, in-services, etc, as they become available and maintain literature regarding safety in the workplace.
  • Provides technical direction to imaging personnel and operations.
  • Ensures procedures are conducted in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards and are completed within acceptable time frames.
  • Personnel are always assigned duties with proper consideration given to the skills and abilities possessed.
  • Department policies are consistently followed.
  • Recommendations regarding more effective or efficient procedures are frequently proposed and implemented.
  • Coordinates scheduling of personnel to ensure adequate coverage of personnel in across the imaging department
  • Demonstrates respect and understanding of differences among staff and knowledge of human behavior.
  • Assists in interviewing, hiring, promoting, terminating, and evaluating of employees using company policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates the competency of Imaging personnel and provides supportive feedback.
  • Ensures that staff maintain their competency to perform various procedures.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with physicians and all patients.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

General Qualifications

  • Knowledge of radiologic standards, requirements and regulations.
  • Knowledge of radiologic safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of radiologic equipment uses and maintenance.
  • Accuracy – Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Communication – Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Computer Skills – Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record.
  • Confidentiality – Maintain patient, team member and employer confidentiality. Comply with all HIPAA regulations.

Education and Certifications:

  1. Associates degree in radiology technology is required.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in radiology technology is strongly preferred.
  3. Must be ARRT, ARDMS, or NMTCB registered.
  4. BLS – Basic Life Support
  5. ACLS – Advanced Lift Support, may be required if health center can provide contract at their practice.
  6. Minimum of 5 years of experience as an imaging professional.
  7. Minimum of 2 years of experience in management or supervision.

 

Work Environment:

  • Environmentally controlled medical office environment
  • Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations
  • Exposure to radiation which is minimized by the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective lead aprons, gloves and other shielding devices and monitored by radiation badges
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a medical office environment
  • Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending, stooping and speaking
  • Occasional sitting
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed
  • May need to lift or turn patients who are disabled, with assistance if needed
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone
