Dr. Zimmer received the Samuel U. Rodgers Achievement Award, the Missouri Primary Care Association’s highest recognition, on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. The awards dinner was held in Branson, MO during the MPCA’s 2010 Clinic & Quality conference. Dr. Zimmer’s family and Missouri Highlands Health Care (MHHC) senior staff were in attendance at the dinner.
The award is presented to an outstanding individual who exemplifies commitment to increasing health access for the uninsured/underinsured in Missouri and in public service in helping Missouri’s communities. This award was established for an individual who demonstrates compassion and care and is involved directly with community health care services.
Excerpts from Dr. Zimmer’s nomination:
Dr. Zimmer began his tenure with MHHC on July 1986, as a National Health Service Corp physician. He continued past his required Corp service time and has worked continuously for MHHC.
He consistently provides high quality, caring, and compassionate care to all who seek treatment at the Big Springs Medical Clinic located in Van Buren, MO.
He works diligently to increase services to those who are unable to obtain care due to lack of financial resources. Whether in casual conversation or at a senior staff meeting, he provides insightful suggestions and information on which to base future decisions.
Dr. Zimmer also makes time to hold the following positions in the community:
- Medical Director of the Riverways Manor Nursing Home in Van Buren since 1987
- Carter County Home Health Advisory Board since 1986
- Board of Directors of the Southeast Missouri Health Education Center
- Van Buren R-1 Board of Education (President since 1988)
