RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides professional customer service by obtaining demographic and insurance information (if applicable), and perform necessary phlebotomy skills as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Follows opening and closing procedures according to office guidelines.
- Blood draws, tissue samples and other bodily fluid draws, as instructed by provider, when lab personnel are short staffed and/or behind.
- Greets patients in polite, prompt, helpful matter and provides any necessary instructions/directions.
- Obtains and enters new patient updates, on every office visit, in the computer system to maintain accuracy for billing if needed.
- Obtains insurance information if necessary; may require verification by contacting insurance companies.
- Enter proper billing charges in the charts for lab services.
- Review billed and captured diagnosis codes for lab.
- Reviews all forms for accuracy and completion according to office policies prior to accepting.
- Receiving and processing specimens to the proper lab either MHHC or outside entity.
- Answers telephone.
- Conducts self in accordance with MHHC’s employee handbook.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulation.
- Performing all other duties, as required.
EDUCATION
- High school graduation or GED and;
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Word processing and computer experience.
- Medical/laboratory knowledge preferred.
- Minimum of one-year work or hands on experience in phlebotomy.
- Minimum of one-year work experience in customer service.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented.
- Must be BLS certified.
ENVIRONMENTAL /WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a controlled laboratory environment. Work may be stressful at times due to a busy office. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Work may require hand dexterity for telephone and office machine operation. There may be excessive standing while working at the check-in counter. May be occasional lifting of supplies up to 20 lbs.
